About our Giddy Up Events

The Giddy Up and Go 5k/15k Race was started in 2014 at the stunning Locust Hill Farm in Middleburg, VA with a goal to raise funds for brain health research. Our race offered school teams the opportunity to gather their friends and teammates and join forces on a scenic run. The Ed Walsh Memorial Scholarship was presented to the largest school team. After two successful years, we are mixing things up this year...in 2016 we'll launch our first-ever Giddy Up and Golf event! Our 1st Annual Giddy up and Golf will be hosted at Top Golf in One Loudoun on May 22nd. Once again, students are encouraged to join us for a fun day with their friends and teammates....all in the name of raising awareness and funds for Healthy Heads research. Teams that hit target size and fundraising dollars will get their team name on back of our Giddy Up and Golf tech tee shirts! Plus, one school and team will have bragging rights as Top Dog at Top Golf at the Battle IN THE Burn! Most importantly, all proceeds will benefit brain tumor, stroke, brain injury and brain illness research.

So, Giddy Up and Go....start your team today!

I came. I cheered. I volunteered.

Volunteers are integral to making our events successful and safe. Without the support of enthusiastic volunteers, our races would not be possible. At our triathlons, volunteers of all ages help with check-in, racer transition areas, providing water and food and keeping bikers on course. During running events, volunteers help keep runners on course and motivate them to the finish line with their awesome cheering. You don't have to be an athlete to volunteer.

Your entire family can volunteer together and the time can count towards of community service requirements for schools, clubs, organizations and even churches. All volunteers receive a t-shirt, refreshments and other goodies.

If you'd like to volunteer or would like more information, please contact us at kathleen.mcfarlane@infinitive.com.

Race Beneficiaries and Prior KatMac Events

Over the years, KatMac Events has supported countless organizations, including: The MARCH OF DIMES, The ONE Fund Boston, Walter Reed Army Medical Hospital and various "Healthy Heads" charities supporting research for brain tumors, stroke, acute brain trauma, etc. As well, several events donated generously to local families in need.

KatMac Events was fortunate enough to team with race sponsors and race beneficiaries at multiple events over the years. At each of our Infinitive Sprint Triathlons, March of Dimes volunteers joined Infinitive employees to ensure our events were a huge success. KatMac Events feels fortunate to have partnered with The National Capital Area Chapter of the March of Dimes for many years; race proceeds from our Infinitive Sprint Tri were donated to the March of Dimes for special projects in our NoVA/Washington, D.C. community.

About KatMac

Successful professional and mother of four, Kathleen McFarlane has participated in and coordinated successful community events for years. Being active has always been a big part of life for Kathleen. After playing soccer for over 15 years, she later turned to running to stay fit. Kathleen has spent the last 20 years competing in countless running events from 5ks to marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2012. Following a 15 year consulting career at Accenture, Kathleen organized her first charity fitness event, the Rock’n Run 5 Miler in Loudoun County and was hooked. Blending her passion for sports with her desire to give back to the community, Kathleen founded KatMac Events to channel philanthropic endeavors around events she loves. Event planning and race organization is a perfect way to blend her program and change management skills with her love of running and passion for philanthropic events.

Kathleen now leverages her skills coordinating large scale first-class events in Northern Virginia full-time. She especially enjoys putting on first class events in Loudoun County, partnering with local businesses to highlight the best aspects the community itself. KatMac Events has been recognized for its coordination of two of the best triathlons in Loudoun County: Infinitive Sprint Triathlon and the Dog Days of Summer Triathlon in Broadlands, VA. Both events receive praise year after year from the participants, media, and community. In 2014 KatMac partnered with close friend Lisa Millar, who runs The Brad Kaminsky Foundation (TBKF) and the Bryant families of Locust Hill Farm to launch the Giddy Up series...a 15k/5k off-road race over the scenic hills of Middleburg. From there, the group has expanded to other charity events to further our "Healthy Heads" cause.

In an effort to share her love of sports and running with a new generation of athletes, Kathleen helped start a Girls on the Run program at her local elementary school in 2010 and has been coaching girls lacrosse since 2013. Coaching young girls has been a rewarding experience and is a great way for Kathleen to inspire girls, including her two daughters to grow as individuals on and off the field.

Kathleen lives in Ashburn, VA with her husband, Denis and their 4 children.
